Diagnostic Services

Diagnostic Radiological Services offers comprehensive diagnostic services across multiple locations in the east and south of Johannesburg.

Our diagnostic services include:

  • X-rays: A quick and non-invasive imaging technique that uses low-dose radiation to capture images of bones, organs, and tissues to detect fractures, infections, or diseases.
  • Ultrasound: A radiation-free imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of internal organs, blood flow, and developing foetuses.
  • Mammogram: A specialised X-ray imaging test used to detect early signs of breast cancer and abnormalities in breast tissue.
  • CT Scans: Computed tomography (CT) scans use multiple X-ray images and computer processing to create detailed cross-sectional views of bones, organs, and tissues for accurate diagnosis.
  • Bone Densitometry: Also known as a DEXA scan, this test measures bone mineral density; therefore, it helps assess osteoporosis risk and overall bone health.
  • MRI Scans: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses powerful magnets and radio waves to produce detailed images of soft tissues, joints, and organs without radiation.
  • PET-CT Scans: A combination of positron emission tomography (PET) and CT scanning that helps detect cancer, assess organ function, and monitor treatment effectiveness by analysing metabolic activity.
  • Interventional Radiology: A minimally invasive speciality using imaging guidance (X-ray, ultrasound, or CT) for procedures such as biopsies, tumour ablations, and vascular treatments.
  • Cone Beam CT Scans: A specialised CT scan that provides high-resolution 3D images, primarily used in dental and maxillofacial imaging for precise diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Panorex: A specialised dental X-ray that captures a panoramic, two-dimensional image of the entire mouth, including teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures, to aid in diagnosing dental issues, impacted teeth, and jaw disorders.
  • Interventional Radiology: A medical specialty that uses real-time imaging (such as X-ray, CT, or ultrasound) to guide minimally invasive procedures for diagnosis and treatment. Common procedures include biopsies, draining fluid collections, placing stents, and treating tumours or blood vessel conditions—often as alternatives to traditional surgery, with quicker recovery times.
  • Fibroid Treatment: A minimally invasive procedure known as Uterine Fibroid Embolisation (UFE), performed by interventional radiologists using imaging guidance. Tiny particles are injected into the arteries supplying the fibroids, blocking blood flow and causing them to shrink. This non-surgical treatment preserves the uterus and offers a faster recovery compared to traditional surgery.
