WHAT IS A CONE BEAM?
Cone beam CT (CBCT) is a medical imaging technique where X-ray images are reconstructed with a computer to form an accurate 3D image. It is mostly useful in imaging small structures in the head, neck, and joints.
Cone beam CT provides detailed images of the bone and is performed to evaluate diseases of the jaw, dentition, bony structures of the face, nasal cavity and sinuses.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN GETTING A CONE BEAM CT?
- The examination will be performed by an experienced radiographer and reported on by a radiologist.
- Remove any garments with metal zippers, belts or buttons, jewellery, eyeglasses, dentures, and hairpins.
- You will therefore be required to wear the gown provided.
- The radiographer will ask you to lie down and assist with position you to take accurate images.
- The procedure takes 30 minutes.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR A CONE BEAM CT?
Arrive 15 minutes early to complete all the necessary paperwork.
Let the radiographer know if there is any possibility that you might be pregnant.
Please bring the test results of any similar procedures you may have had in the past.
An assessment with previous imaging aids can be assistance in providing a more accurate diagnosis.
